The Chinese Traditional Lantern Exhibition & fifth Guangdong Lantern Cultural Festival opened in Hongmei Town, Dongguan City on 20th February, 2016.
On the evening of 20th February, the Chinese Traditional Lantern Exhibition & fifth Guangdong Lantern Cultural Festival opened in the Culture & Sports Square of Hongmei Town, Dongguan City. Many special lanterns will be on display during the three-day event, which will be a great visual feast to the public.
The biggest feature of this year's Lantern Festival is that 12 cities will also be participating with their local lanterns including Ganzhou of Jiangxi Province, Weifang of Shandong Province, Huizhou, Panyu, Longmen, Beijing, Nanjing of Jiangsu Province, Chaozhou-Shantou area, and many more.
The "King of lanterns" which is 11 metres tall and 9 metres wide, consisting of 12 giant pictures is also on display this year.
At the opening ceremony, Hongmei was awarded the title of "the hometown of lantern in China". Hongmei lanterns have a long history. It is one of the existing folk traditional handicrafts with Lingnan characteristics in Dongguan.
