Dongguan ranked fifth for China’s 2013 foreign trade volume     01/27/2014 09:37

According to Huangpu Customs' statistics, the total value of Dongguan imports and exports in 2013 hit a record high US$153.07 billion. This is a 5.9% increase over 2012, and 3.7% of China's total foreign trade volume. Last year, Dongguan's processing trade totalled US$112.09 billion, accounting for 8.3% of China's total imports and exports.

Of all foreign-trade oriented cities, Dongguan's imports and exports ranked fifth in China and second in Guangdong Province. Among the first five major foreign-trade cities, Dongguan's foreign trade growth was outpaced by only Shenzhen, but faster than Shanghai, Beijing and Suzhou. In Guangdong Province, Dongguan's total foreign trade volume ranked second only to Shenzhen.

According to Huangpu Customs' data analysis, the value of processing trade imports and exports accounted for 73.2% of the total with general trade also seeing faster growth. In 2013, the imports and exports value of processing trade in Dongguan City was US$112.09 billion, an increase of 3.3%. Among this, the exports volume was US$68.29 billion, an increase of 3.2%, with imports at US$43.8 billion, an increase of 3.4%. The imports and exports volume of general trade was US$32.45 billion, up 16.4%, accounting for 21.2%. Among this, exports was US$20.08 billion, up 18.6%; while imports US$12.37 billion, an increase of 12.8%.

Dongguan's major trading partners remain stable, with ASEAN, the EU, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea and USA the top six trading partners for 2013. The city's foreign trade volume with these six regions and countries amounted to US$111.58 billion, accounting for 72.9% of the total. Hong Kong was the largest export market for Dongguan with total exports of US$26.24 billion, an increase of 16.6%. Taiwan continues to rank first for imports to Dongguan at US$ 10.34 billion, an increase of 8.7%.
