Nissin Foods Holdings Co. will expand production of its instant noodle products to meet growing demand in China, the company said Dec. 20.

Its wholly owned subsidiary Nissin Foods Co., based in Hong Kong, will build two noodle factories in Hong Kong and Xiamen, Fujian province, as well as a plant to make packing materials in Dongguan, Guangdong province.

The Hong Kong facility will start production of Demae Iccho and other instant noodle products in July 2016 while the Xiamen plant will start production of Cup Noodles in April 2014. Operations will start at the Dongguan plant in January 2015.

Demand for Demae Iccho, which is produced in existing plants in Hong Kong, has been growing especially in southern China as income and food safety awareness increases among middle-class consumers.

Sales of Cup Noodles increased by about 40 percent year on year due to brisk demand in urban areas along the coast where people's incomes are rising and their lifestyles are changing. Cup Noodles is currently made in plants in Shanghai and Foshan, Guangdong province.
