Dongguan's trade with Japan for first half of 2013 totals US$7.53 billion     08/06/2013 11:59

On 2nd August, the "Tenth government liaison meeting with Japanese-funded enterprises in Dongguan" was held at the Dongguan Exhibition International Hotel. The meeting was jointly organized by the Dongguan Municipal People's Government, the Japanese Consulate General in Guangzhou, and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) representative office in Guangzhou.

Nearly 200 people including He Yu (Vice-Mayor of Dongguan), Koichi Ito (Consul General of Japan in Guangzhou), Hiroyuki Tsukada (Director of the JETRO in Guangzhou), several city leaders, department heads, and representatives from Japanese-funded enterprises in Dongguan attended the meeting.

He Yu highlighted that Dongguan's trade development with Japan showed good momentum this year. For the first half of this year, newly-signed contractual Japanese investment grew by 25.5% in the city, including 5 Japanese-funded projects with the total investment sum exceeding US$10 million. Actual utilized Japanese capital showed a substantial increase of 145.7%. Dongguan's trade with Japan totalled US$7.53 billion for the first half of 20139. Of this, exports to Japan accommodate for US$3.55 billion, an increase of 9.3% over the same period last year.

During the meeting, questions raised by Japanese-funded enterprises concerning employment, labour disputes, average wages, social security, the transformation of processing trade into the three kinds of foreign-invested ventures (joint, cooperative and foreign-owned), and export tax rebates were answered.
